Does the Whirlpool microwave have a reset button?
Press the "Off/Clear' button to cancel anything on the display, and reset the microwave. This is a soft reset and will simply get you out of any program you have started. Press it when the cooking complete reminder appears on the display, for example, and the "Your Food is Ready" message will disappear.
Verify the power cord is connected to a grounded, operational outlet. Check the outlet. If you are unaware if it's working, plug in a household lamp or other small appliance to verify that the outlet is working. Check to see if a household circuit breaker has tripped or if the household fuse has been blown.

Microwave Not Working? Fuse Testing - YouTube
The most common cause for a microwave oven not working at all is a blown main fuse. The microwave main fuse will cut the flow of electricity if too much current passes through it.

Fuses are located in many places inside the microwave, including the top, side, and behind the vent grille. Using the wiring diagram can help you locate the appropriate fuse. Once you have located the fuse, remove any necessary wires and fasteners to free it from the microwave.
Start by checking the wall plug to ensure the microwave is plugged into power. Next, check the door switch and the door latch assembly. The microwave won't start if the appliance believes the door is open. Next, check the two fuses, the thermal fuse, and the ceramic fuse, to see if they need to be replaced.
If the capacitor is not working correctly the circuit will stop working and the microwave will not heat. After the capacitor has been discharged: Test the capacitor for continuity with the multimeter. If the capacitor fails the test you will need a new capacitor.
How many fuses does a microwave have?
Most microwaves contain at least a main fuse or line fuse and a thermal fuse or thermoprotector. The main fuse is usually a narrow, rectangle shape, two inches in length, and either a ceramic fuse or a glass fuse with a filament.
The average microwave oven lasts about seven years with normal use, and even less with heavy use and poor maintenance. A large family may find themselves replacing their appliance every four to five years as they become more reliant on its use to heat up snacks and leftovers, or to defrost meals.

If your microwave is relatively new and the repair costs less than replacing it, the fix is worth it. But are microwaves worth repairing if something major is broken? Probably not. Consider getting a replacement appliance for about $100, which should work for 7 to 10 years.
When your microwave turns on but does not heat up, it may mean the door switch is broken. The door switch signals other microwave components to supply power when closed, and to stop heating when open. The door switch can also be called an interlock switch.
